Professors in Residence Alternative Work Experience
With in-person internships on hold, hospitality and tourism students went virtual with professors-in-residence program.

Fairleigh Dickinson University’s International School of Hospitality, Sports, and Tourism Management created an alternative work experience program for undergraduate Luxury Hospitality Management students.  Over a six-week period, students participated in eight hours of seminars delivered from eighteen experts from hospitality organizations such as Walt Disney World, Hilton Worldwide, Omni Hotels and Resorts, Cendyn and more! The “Professors in Residence” program has a goal of preparing students for professional careers during and after the COVID-19 pandemic while delivering professional development opportunities from industry leaders.   Due to the pandemic, students were faced with many challenges including the cancellation or delay  of their internship opportunities.   The faculty and staff did not view this as a barrier for students but as an opportunity to learn, network and collaborate with the Professors in Residence. The Professors in Residence volunteered their time to assist in the delivery of this alternative work experience course. Each week the Professors in Residence interviewed hospitality industry veterans to provide the students with progressive, forward-looking industry knowledge and information.
