Life is like a book, some chapters are sad, some happy, and some exciting. I write this because on May the 23rd I finished one of the most unforgettable chapters in my life: my university degree.

During this period of time I have learnt something about the hospitality industry, but I have learnt more about myself and life than ever before, which is something that can not be taught through books or classrooms. It might sound funny, but when I was 17 and I left home on my way to uni, I did not even know how to make basic meals such as spaghetti bolognese. Yes, learning day-to-day basics such as budgeting and using a washing machine along with finding out who you want to become represents “the whole university experience.”

Jokes aside, the main difference from four years ago is that now I feel much more confident with myself. As an alumni from both Hotel School Sant Pol de Mar and the Hotel School of Distinction I have reaped the perks of both institutions. My university works with some of the best industry partners such as Marritot, Hilton or Melia International, which allows the students to develop their professional skills in some of the best hotels of the globe. I do believe, that internships are the best way to gain valuable industry knowledge.

Moreover, my college gave me the opportunity to participate in the last annual meeting of the HSD held in Amsterdam, where I was fortunate to meet students from the other schools, sharing our thoughts and different points of view, but having all a common goal: discuss the issues of the industry and build awareness for the HSD brand through plenty of ideas.

Finally, I would like to dedicate these words to my classmates. We were a small class of twenty students who have become my “second family” during the last four years. We have no way of knowing what the future holds, but exciting moments are awaiting all of us! I wish them all the very best during their career endeavours.
